Rombauer family legend has it that this beverage originated in our native city of St. LouisΓÇöeven though the inventor was actually an Englishman who hit upon the idea out of desperation. The year was 1904; the place, the St. Louis WorldΓÇÖs Fair; the circumstance, the indifference of the general public in the sweltering midwestern heat to Richard BlechyndenΓÇÖs hot tea concession.
Prepare the tea (see How to Brew Tea), using twice the quantity of leaves suggested. Stir, strain, and let cool to room temperature. Pour over ice cubes in tall glasses.
